Rockhold threatens to ‘slap down’ McGregor

Number one ranked UFC middleweight Luke Rockhold has threatened to “slap down” Conor McGregor if the Interim featherweight champion continues his trash talking at press conferences.

Rockhold and McGregor were both present at the UFC’s ‘Go Big’ press conference in Las Vegas last week, along with full featherweight champion Jose Aldo, women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and several UFC champions and challengers.

The former Strikeforce middleweight champion will face current UFC champion Chris Weidman for the title at UFC 194 in December, on the same card as McGregor’s long-awaited clash with Aldo.

McGregor and Rockhold could both be present at several future press conferences to promote the event, and the 6ft3in Californian says he has already grown tired of the Irishman’s brash personality.

“He getting a little too big for his britches these days. He’s believing his own hype and he’s just spouting off,” Rockhold said on UFC Tonight.

“We had a press conference the other day and he must have gone off on the whole panel and tried to pick a fight. So don’t let me do too much press with him in the build up to this fight, I have to slap the kid down, Dana.”

UFC 194 will take place at a the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on December 12.  Jacare Souza and Yoel Romero, the respective second and third-ranked middleweights, will also face off.
