Still failing to get their old groove back on, Rain or Shine mulls another import change as Jason Forte could not make an immediate impact in his second game.
Elasto Painter head coach Yeng Guiao admitted they will need to assess the situation for now regarding a possible import gamble after his wards blew a 21-point lead in the first half en route to a deflating loss to NLEX on Sunday night.
“We’re still struggling with our chemistry with our import, so we have to make a decision whether we will consider another import change or just have him (Forte) stay for the next two games,” said Guiao to the press.
“Mahirap sa ganyan, very short preparation, you’re always taking a gamble on whoever you’re bringing in. Ang question diyan: is it worth the gamble? So pag-aralan namin,” he continued.
Guiao said they will decide whether to retain Forte or not Tuesday the latest.
Coming in abruptly to replace Dior Lowhorn, the former Air21 import could not get something going in his 28 minutes of play, as he was limited to just 7 points in a horrible 1 out of 8 shooting.
With Forte offering virtually nothing offensively, the fiery mentor decided to go all-Filipino in the last 7 minutes of the game but still faltered down the road for their 5th loss.
Despite another setback, though, Guiao is not giving up on the possibility of Rain or Shine pulling off a surprise or two in the playoffs.
“There’s always the possibility that we can beat them twice. So as long as we’re able to survive this – getting eliminated – it does not matter whether we’re eighth place or seventh place if we’re able to bring our old game back,” he said.
And should they go for an import change, the former Pampanga solon looks back on their Commissioner’s Cup fate where they managed to win it all despite having multiple replacement on their reinforcement.
