Garvo Lanete clicked from all cylinders, firing a PBA career-high 21 points to spearhead NLEX Road Warriors’ comeback from huge 21-point deficit to shock the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 111-99, Sunday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Lanete led the Road Warriors’ uprising in the final canto where he waxed hot for 12 points, highlighted by three booming triples. He shot 6-of-9 from beyond the arc while American import Henry Walker had an all around performance of 23 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.
The win boosted the Road Warriors’ playoff hunt as they improved to 4-5, and are now tied with the Elasto Painters at the middle pack of the team standings in the season-ending conference.
NLEX trailed by 18, 30-12, early in the first frame and ballooned to as much as 21, 27-48, midway through the second quarter but the Roard Warriors refused to fold up.
Meanwhile, Paul Lee led Rain or Shine’s attack with 23 points. Comebacking import Jason Forte was limited to just 7 points and 6 rebounds in second straight lackluster performance. – By John Bryan Ulanday
